Typography: The style, arrangement, or appearance of typeset matter.
For this assignment, we discussed the importance of typography and were asked to play three typography games online to learn the difference between specific fonts. Game one was Shoot the Serif. Personally, I loved the play on words and even enjoyed the game. The difference between Serif and Sans Serif is much easier to distinguish after successfully “shooting the serif!”
Game two was one of the trickier ones, Poster Letters. This game did not teach knowledge of different fonts but it did prove that I needed to pay close attention to the lettering of titles. It is important to know famous lettering because typography can completely change the look and feel of something if it has been used before.
Game three had my attention off the bat. Professor Croom challenged the class to get past level 10 and receive bonus points. Type War required undivided attention and concentration. It teaches the difference between multiple fonts and how to distinguish between them all. After about an hour of full concentration and a little help from Word, I completed level 10 of Type War. I can confidently distinguish the difference between multiple fonts and hey, that’s more than I could have done before.
