1. What were you asked to do?
I was asked to create two direct mailers from the University of Oklahoma to a specified high school or transfer student who was interested in going to college, preferably a four-year major university.
2. How did you respond to what you were asked to do?
I was ready to get started on this assignment. The only setback was that we were only allowed to use Photoshop. With previous projects I had used InDesign but had not yet become very familiar with Photoshop. This gave me a good way to really get to know Photoshop.
3. How did react to what you actually did?
I was extremely excited. Photoshop had always been somewhat of a challenge, and knowing now that I can use this application without having to Google every little thing, I am ready to create something new!
4. Now go one level deeper: Why do you think your reaction was what it was?
My reaction was excitement because in the beginning I was extremely frustrated and really had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Most definitely. I can now confidently use Photoshop and InDesign.
The main differences between Photoshop and InDesign that I found, was that InDesign creates a canvas and you are able to move items around seamlessly where as Photoshop is the canvas. With Photoshop, you must select every layer when you want to move it, where as InDesign lets you pick up any icon you need. At first, I preferred InDesign over Photoshop because I thought it was more user friendly and I understood it more. Now, it’s a close call between both. If I only had to choose one, it would be InDesign.
If I were to start over, I would take about an hour or two to really learn Photoshop before I got started. It was difficult to get started but after a while I was using it almost as well as InDesign.
