For this assignment, we were asked to create four different images to use for an organization of our choice. For my organization, I am creating for Sooners Helping Sooners.
1. What were you asked to do?
We were asked to create four images to use for different social media posts for any organization of our choice.
2. How did you respond to what you were asked to do?
I was a little frustrated with this assignment because I have really enjoyed getting to use InDesign and Photoshop, some of the “capital A” Applications. After I got started with Canva.com, I realized how great of a tool it is when you are creating something quickly and want it to look like major effort was put into it. I will definitely be using Canva for simple design projects.
3. How did react to what you actually did?
I was impressed with what I actually did and what Canva can create. I wasn’t sure if it would look similar to a capital A application, but after I saw the finished product, I noticed it looks great.
4. Now go one level deeper: Why do you think your reaction was what it was?
My reaction was what it was because I can see how Canva can be a useful tool when you don’t need to spend very much time on a design project and need it quickly.
Canva brings speed and accuracy to design work. It lets you create something within a matter of minutes, rather than hours. There are also already dimensions created, you don’t have to create your own. The limitations are diversity with text and image editing overall. You have much more freedom with InDesign.
Yes. My design process changed when they gave cover photo backgrounds and I didn’t have to create my own from scratch. My design thinking was also a little limited because of the examples and products they give. With Adobe Creative, you have to design things on your own rather than using other’s designs.
Below are my four design pieces. Two cover photos and two graphics to post on Facebook and Instagram.
The captions would read: Sooners Helping Sooners is having an interest meeting on April 9th, 2015 in Wagner 240 for students interested in joining! Exec applications come out Wednesday, April 8th and are due April 17th. For more information, visit shs.ou.edu or follow us on Twitter at @OUSHS.
